Leaders deal with energy: they create and energize people. They mobilize, motivate, capture and fire the imagination. They create or release the energy needed for competition and the commitment or desire to win. From individual through team to organisation to global, leaders deal with the energy of the system. Leaders inspire confidence so that followers create, build and take opportunities knowing you will find a way through uncertainty, change, even crisis. They turn the potential energy of people into a dynamic force, building momentum to sustain, inspire and focus on achieving the envisioned future. Leaders establish morale, they pull people together and align them towards an exciting future. It is the quality of the relationship of leaders and followers, all the way up and down the organization chart, that makes or breaks organizations.
What will they get out of it?

We would include the psychometric tool, the Strength Deployment Inventory to investigate communication and relationships. SDI is a powerful ‘learning resource’ that identifies your personal strengths and your motivational values which, when understood, acts as a catalyst for clear, effective communication. This results in a ‘common language’, which is easily understood and can be used by everyone! By understanding that preference individuals can maximise their performance and personal satisfaction. Although everyone has a preferred way of going about things, people can and do use different approaches at different times. For a team to work effectively, each of these roles must be fulfilled.
Experiential Option
HMS Hazard An unusual experience engenders in a person the need to speak. It would be our intention, as an anchor to the learning but also to provide a different development environment, to take the delegates to something completely different from their everyday experience. Stories create a powerful cohesiveness in developing a team ethos. Research has proved that story telling is a key concept in human understanding and allows individuals to explore and exchange complex issues more easily. This experience improves team cohesion and trust.
HMS Hazard is a life-sized hydraulic, all-moving Type 23 frigate simulator designed to provide real-time simulation of damage control as if the ship has been hit by a missile below the water-line. The simulator fills with water and the team has to repair the damage and prevent the ship from sinking!!
This experience would then be used as a metaphor to draw out how the team needs to work in the future and break down the barriers between the individuals to allow the team to discuss the issues about which they are concerned. It is how this session is contextualised that releases the conversation as to how they need to improve their performance as a leadership team.
